Electrical issues

We replaced the '74 gauges with '73 gauges (my son likes the silver button... So do I). Now we have some serious electrical issues. When the brake is depressed, the generator light comes on and all the gauges go dead. Not to mention the gauges intermittently go dead as we are going down the road. Any idea as what is cross wired in the dash?
Thanks

Check #8 and #9 fuses; one of them is blown. Note that our fuses can look OK but still be popped; if you pull them out you may find that the metal falls apart--that is a blown fuse.

It is most likely that you got a power wire plugged into a ground. So double check the connections on the gauges. I also had a problem where the fuse block was shifting in its mounts, and shorting one of the wires to the frame of the box. That was caused by one of the mounting screws being missing.
