914 converted to Subaru speedometer question
I have a 914 converted to a Subaru 2.0 engine with a Subaru transmission. My question is how can I get the speedometer to work with the transmission? I know the Porsche is mechanical and won't work directly with the Subaru. Or do I need to get an aftermarket Speedometer? Or can I use a Subaru Speedometer? A few look like they will fit.
I am looking for the easiest/economical way of doing this. Thanks! Mark |

See what info you can dig up on the Scooby speedometer. If it uses a simple signal from somewhere on the transmission, you may be able to run a wire or two (more?) for it. If it is a more complex setup, then you may have to go aftermarket.

I would suggest forgetting the speedometer and finding RPM vs gear for various speeds say 2nd gear at 30 MPH, 3rd gear at 45 and so on. If you live in a state that does safety inspections where they look at the equipment then that will not fly but in CA we never seem to get inspections and on the freeways just go same speed as everyone else and use the aforementioned RPM vs gears to get you around city areas.

Apparently VDO makes a converter to go from mechanical drive to electrical impulse..... hopefully that is true and that will work as I switched my speedo from mechanical to electric on my Six to accommodate the later speedo from a 911.
