Maybe I need snow tires?
How does a 914 handle in the snow?
This is a question I never had to think about before. But here I am with my 914/6 at my sister's cottage and we just got 4" of snow.... I might have that much clearance. And I should be at work tomorrow .....hmm... Any driving tips? or experiences you might like to share. Martin |

I thought the teener would be great in the snow. All my Corvairs were. I drove mine around the block once after a 4" snowfall. It was kinda slushy like driving through a big slurpie. The the car drove like crap. The slush pushed the front end all over. My tires are wider than stock and that probably had a lot to do with it. But I wouldn't do it again.

Last week I got caught at around 10,000ft in a major snow up above Central City. I was in a casino and didn't know it was snowing for almost three hours. I HAD to be home that night so I made the drive at night, in heavy snow showers. For those of you that don't know, some of the grades coming out oif the rockies are about 8%. The car drove just like it does in the rain...Fantastic. And that, mind you, was with sport tires..PCH

I'm with you, Kevin => 4 studded snows +914 = great snow car.
Except.... bad slush. These cars are light, and if you're going too fast (you've built up too much confidence), and try to change lanes/pass/turn and hit a slush patch, the front tires stop and you whip around pretty quick... usually it's a 360 spin.... usually within the length of the car... I really liked the car during ice storms: the studded tires and the weight distribution made for a nice, safe drive.

You drive your car in the rain? wow... i thought that 914's rust immedietly with contact of water. I took off my windsheld wipers, and the arms (to repaint the arms and to get new wipers). now snow just sounds crazy, glad im in CA. although those darn earthquakes get me all the time.
