Anybody have a picture of a "center deposit," the optional, box-like storage thingy under the dashboard on the early 914s? Maybe a web site link or post it here?
And, were these things ever present in the 914-6, or just the early 4-cylinder cars? Any info appreciated.

Thanks, Mike. If you should come across a picture--or, for that matter, an actual Center Deposit in excellent shape--please let me know.
Same goes for anybody else out there. Thanks.

I have got one of those. I will post a pic a little bit later today. Unfortunately, it is not in excellent shape. It is a pretty neat litte option. Good place for CDs and maps and other stuff that is best not sliding around the inside of the car.
I would be willing to trade it for a freshly rebuilt 3.0 motor. kidding. |

Thanks Geoff, that's it, and after seeing the pic, I definitely want one.
Anybody has one or knows of a likely source, let me know. Nice looking car, BTW, but it obviously isn't your '76. . ![]() Thanks again for the pic, it's a help

No it's not my car! wish it was as it's a real 916! I think it was for sale and the pics were posted so I saved them as it's soo beautiful a car. Here are two more with a better shot of the interior

Bob....
I have a center deposit I pulled from a wreck recently...it's missing the upper bracket, but you could make a bracket very easily. Let me know if you are interested and I'll shoot a pic. Thanks, Mike

Here is what my center depot looks like w/ guages. I like it...but I should really take some new interior pics (I've since made some updates to the interior) But the guages fit in nicely and since it's all custom you can do what you wish w/ the space.

Mike: Thanks very much for the offer, but I think I have now found a very nice center deposit through my mechanic.
I might have to do a little messing around with it to match the carpet, but that even I can handle. ;-) Nathan: cool look, you have sort of blended the ideas of the center deposit and the center console. Nice. I have decided the center deposits are nifty little items. They keep the proudly spartan look of the 914 interior, while dressing it up just a tad, and giving you someplace to put "stuff." Thanks to everybody who responded on and off list.

Nathan-
What are the chrome protectors on the door panel and sill? I've never seen them before?? Are they custom? Thanks, Tom |

Tom,
Actually they were something the PO added, and I have no idea where he got them from. They are in fact thin machined aluminum plates (on the typical carpet wear spots) that are screwed in. I kindda like the look so I'm going to keep them...that and the fact that I've never seen them before either. Like I said earlier I have some other mods to the interior that I haven't gotten around to taking pics of. I'm in the process of buying a place that has a single garage (thank god) so I'll have all sorts of garage and car pics in the future ![]() Nathan

Chrome? I first thought they were machine turned aluminum or checkered aluminum. Now I'm curious.

That 916 (not "just" a 914-6!) is probably the following one:
1972 9142330017 Gemini Blue 2.7L Carrera 210 bhp (Material lifted from the "tech specs" page of http://www.dgi.net/914) Gemini Blue seems about right, it looks like the color of Carl Cilker's Six. That 916 is original and (as far as I know) completely unrestored. It is just the way that it left the Factory. But a lot of the pieces were "one-offs", so don't be expecting to find the same stuff on a 914 in the junkyard... --DD
