My new 914

Picked this one up the other day. 1972 non appearance. New garage paint job by PO. Interior is also all new. Nice car with a small rust spot. Better out of all the other 914's i have had. Came with 4 bins of parts and a rebuilt VW bus block. The block doesn't have the top mount dip stick so it's for sale. Hopefully one of the VW guys here in town will pick it up. If not I might pull it apart and drill out the dip stick hole myself. Can't be that hard. Here's some pics.

Installed a Porsche CDR-220 radio the other day.

Still working on finding a good motor. Hopefully the one i just found in Houston is good. I started to pull the rockers off to fix dent and paint black. Also found out I'm missing the rear spoiler. Did the non-appearance cars have chrome or body color trim around the roll bar?

There is no rear spoiler on a stock 914. If you mean the rear valence, the part that hangs under the bumper, that is a different matter. The 72 would have had the common "short" valence, rather than the early deep "porthole" valence, which had a hole in it for the tailpipe. (Different location for the -4 and -6 versions, even!)

All cars except some or most of the 1974 Limited Edition cars had chrome-look trim around the roll bar. I believe it's actually anodized aluminum, though, so be careful of bending it. The LE cars had blacked-out roll bar trim.

I think that cars that did not have vinyl on the sail panel would not have had the trim piece across the bottom of the sail panel, but the rest of the trim was used.

Yes Valence, Sorry. Thanks for the info on them, I'll look for the short valence.
