Fog Light Bulb
Question: What is the "actual" bulb type for the fog lights? I see the Porsche part number listed, and the style of bulb. But would like to know the actual base. I'm contemplating making an adapter to wire in a different type bulb, but need to know what base to get. I haven't had time to pull the lights to dissect them on my own.
Thanks! |

The bulb is a larger example of the bayonet-type plugs that (e.g.) the brake lights use. A brass sleeve with two pins sticking out; you push in and twist to install or remove. An isolated pad on the bottom provides the power for the element, and the brass sleeve provides the ground connection.
(I could have those backwards, but I think that's the way it goes.) Many years ago, Rich Johnson made sleeves that you could attach a halogen bulb to and plug into the stock fog light. They required some fiddling, but they worked pretty well! Still do, in my car. --DD

No worries. Thanks for the info. I'll work something up for it.

A little more thought and a Google search makes me think it was an H3 bulb. I think I wound up having to solder the edge of the metal disk that holds the bulb to the end of the sleeve, which was the finicky part of the installation.
