Unhappy Its official, I'm an idiot

Monday night, eat steak, oysters and a few rum and coke's. Wake up tuesday morning at about 5 am not feeling so well. Go try to sort it out on the toilet. No dice. Try to go back to bed. Sleep poorly until 6am. Wake up feeling way bad, go puke about fifteen times. Stomach cramps up, feels like i am giving birth.(decided it was food poisioning) This goes on until about noon. Sleep until 5pm, wake up in a daze but somehow feel like I need to go to the garage and put my final tie rod on. Did it, and put the wheel on and lower to ground. Wake up today, figured that I sould take the car in for an alignment. Drive off, go around the block, and THE F'in WHEEL FALLS OFF. I forgot to tighten the bolts. No damage, but I felt like the worlds biggest dip. To make matters worse, my girlfriend was following me. And I had two doctors appointments today

I feel your pain

I was taking a load to the dump and got passed by the left wheel from my trailer ("Hey, that looks like mine!")

...THAT should be worth big sympathy points (they TELL you you're a dip AFTER they marry you )

LOL, dude, that sucks. This happened to me with my passat. I was doing my rear brakes, and when I finished, I tightened the passenger side, but not the drivers side. Anyways, the drivers side, the way the wheels turn, they help the bolts un-screw. So about two days later, I was driving down the highway doing about 65 and I start hearing a thumping sound. I was like "what the heck did I do wrong on my brakes"?!?!?! Until it got worst and I just hear/feel my car hit the ground and start skidding (good thing there wasn't anybody around, How embarrassing). So I get out and take a look at it and the wheel fell off and got jamed between the wheel well and the rotor. I try to break it loose with my hands, Heck no, this thing was really jammed. I start kicking it and after about 10 good kicks, it got loose. The inside of the wheel now has some deep scratches and a minor flat spot on the tire. Not a big deal, but scared the hell out of me. I'm just glad it wasn't worst then it was. Well, anyways, I feel for you too.

I am glad I was going 10 mph, and not 60 on the freeway. I gained a valuble lesson. ALWAYS tighten the F'n wheel bolts!

I know that "loose wheel" sound very well, thankyewverymuch!

I changed the brake pads on my old Accord (first car) and then started to go somewhere. I pulled out of the carport and there was this gaddawful thumping/grumbling noise. I realized immediately that I had forgotten to cinch down the lug nuts.

A few years later, I did some work to the 914, then drove it to work. On the way home that afternoon, the steering started to feel a little funny--and I heard a familiar gaddawful racket. Oh, crap! I pulled over pronto and opened up the trunk... To find that I had left all the tools at home in the garage. DOH!!! So I tightened up the lug bolts as tight as I could with my bare hands, and drove about a half-mile. I stopped, re-tightened the bolts, drove another half-mile. I did this all the way home, where I promptly dug out the torque wrench and properly tightened the d**n bolts!!!

LOL, one time I was very careful to properly torque the alloy lug nuts on my 9 eleben. I decided to take the car for a little spin. About 20 feet from the driveway I heard a clunk. I immediately stopped the car and jumped out to see what the heck it was. There was my nice shiny torque wrench sitting in the middle of the street. Evidently I left it on the last lug nut I torqued

Sold my fuchs so I had to put my old wheels back on. Wife starts tellin me to hurry or else I will miss the girls last gymnastics class. I tell her to go ahead I'll catch up.

Well you guessed it. Got halfway across town driving faster than I should and I hear this clunk, clunk. Next thing I know I'm looking at sky through the front and pavement through the passenger window! Not once, but three times I went flying up and down. The drivers side front wheel came off and lifted me up destroying my fender. Wheel finally gets loose and goes flying down the street towards cross traffic. Luckily the guy behind me chases it down and stops it before it hits sombody.

So here I am in flip flops lifting up the front crab leggin it to the side.

Talk about being a an idiot I think that earned me a doctorate!

chrisreale,

Is this an indication that we suffer from mild form of 914 OBSESSION!

I had finished upgrading my brake lines to braided, and put the wheels back on. Then decided to run over to the local ACE hardware for some misc parts. Of course I heard this noise coming from the front end, and the steering was a little flimsy. So I'm thinkin to myself - What Now!

I get to the hardware store, and pull the lug wrench from the trunk to check the wheel lugs. I start checkin the wheels and here's this guy staring at me like I'm ripping them off or something.

All I could do was just laugh and continue. Sure enough I failed to tighten the fronts completely. Of course if I had taken the car to the local Sears garage, that would have never happened right?

Remembered to tighten the lug nuts but forgot to let it down off the jack!

Don't recall why I had the old Oldsmobile up in the air but it was in a driveway that sloped away on the lifted side. So, didn't notice when I climbed in and took off. Fortunetly it did no damage and no one witnessed my stupidity.

That is the key:

Nobody saw me.

I always look around when I do something stupid..make sure nobody was watching.

These tire stories are funny. I'm sitting here reading this stuff and LOL! My wife is sitting next to me on her computer giving me the look. I finally had to tell her why I was laughing. She sez, "Well you drove off with your laptop on the roof of your car!" Well I may have done it.. But you can't prove it!
