Totally Awesome!!!
Totally Awesome!!!
Alright, I couldn’t wait!! Cleared out the trunk of all stuff, threw the drivers seat in and headed for the hills. I really didn’t know what to expect when I finally got to drive my 2270, but this thing literally BLEW MY SOCKS OFF!! I thought my Mustang 5.0 had some kick a$$ torque, but it was nothing like this… This is some kind of power, almost scary power. I never took it over 4K and it just pined me to the hold on to the back of my seat. Jake you are one fine engine builder, really, this thing is awesome!!! 3 grand in 5th and it’s motoring along at 75!! I can’t even imagine how fast it will go. And when those Webers open up…..Holy crap…it sounds like the SR-71 taking off….are you sure you didn’t sneak an afterburner in there somewhere. I can see now I’m going to have to sharpen up my driving skills, this thing is totally going to be a challenge to learn to drive!!! I can’t wait. ![]() ![]()

159.4 HP / 161.7 Max torque with Tangerine Header.
148.2 HP / 157.5 Max torque with standard heat exchangers. According to the dnyo graph from Jake. Mostly it's like opening up a whole six-pack of Woppp As$$$$ lol

sounds like a fairly cheap and easy way to have a lot of fun without dropping huge $$$ for a quality 6 conversion. also would be good for those nice '73-'74 2.0's that shouldn't be cut up or welded on. if I can ever get a job/car this is something I would seriously consider.
oh yeah...what version 2270 did you get B, C, D? Last edited by derek_sf; 12-20-2002 at 01:23 PM.. |

Glad you are having fun with it...
Steve's engine was a 2270"C" with my mods to better outfit for a 914, most of which are cam and valve margin related.... I keep telling people that the 2270 is a kick ass engine, they just don't understand until they drive one.

With a standard head service at 40K, and normal maintenance otherwise you can see 60-80K easily, even being driven hard. I have atleast 5 of them with over 100K on them with just a head service at 50K or so....
Every engine is different, oil and fuels used make a difference, but the biggest factor is keeping mechanics away from it that don't know the TIV in a personal sort of way.......one bad dude with a 13mm wrench can absolutely ruin you day.

Even VW stated that the heads should be pulled at 40K, new valves installed, seats cut and the surfaces checked....
I offer this service at 1/2 rate for my customers that purchase my engines and drive them for 40K, usually runs about 600 bucks in parts and labor . It is all preventive maintenance, its all about fixing something before it breaks, just like in the aviation community.

When I got my 1st 914, I had service records going back 20+ years...the original owner had the rings and valves done every 20-30k miles.........
For times like this, that is when it's nice to have another engine to drop in while the overhaul is being performed.

Hey Jake, You should offer a loaner motor on an exchange. You know, once a guy has experienced all that power how can you be without the teener? Hey it was worth a shot..
