Electric 914

I found this site about a 914 converted to electric power:

http://evcl.com/914/

There is a good description of what is involved and they claim a 0-60 time around 5 seconds. But the site hasn't been updated for a long time. Do some of you ever saw this car or any other electric 914 in action? .

I have seen one in Seattle. It was a cool conversion but waaay too heavy with all the batteries. Kinda defeats the purpose of having lightweight sportscar.

I've ridden in this electric 914....it's a blast getting sideways in a corner with no noise exept the slight squeal of the tires. Very quick car off the line......

I like how this guy (Otmar?) thinks. When it was time to make another EV he decided to use the 914. Since he was going to make one out of some donor vehicle I am glad he saw extra virtues in the 914...like handling all the weight of 20-29 optima batteries. What would that weigh? (Would that put in the weight class of the Ford Excursion?)

0-60 in 5.8 seconds with a passenger....outstanding.

Looking at the conversion costs of approx 35K supports what members here keep saying....conversions done right cost $$$.

Just a thought with the purist in mind...
If he used german electric motors and porsche batteries...would it be accepted in the die hard Porsche circles?

I saw a Porsche prototype electric 356 for sale the other day on EBay. It was pretty rusted and had no engine.

I wonder if the price of those components will go down like everything else when the market will be there. There is no reason for the motor or the controllers to cost more than $500 each. If there is a market for turbo conversion kit for Honda civic, why not universal electrical conversion kits with different adaptors plates to fit differents transmissions.

Sorry I am just trying to connect the half of my brain that like driving with the other half that like to hug trees.

Yes, one of the early cars that the elder Dr. Porsche designed for someone else's car company (might have been the "Lohner-Porsche"?) had electric motors in all four hubs.

Mr Porsche built a few different models of electric cars. All the motors were mounted on the hubs. One of the first ones had a motor mounted on each front hub making it the first front wheel drive car (history of porsche book for x-mas).
