Maybe the ring is broke off, like my pas. seat. If this be the case, the ring attaches to the rail nearest the tunnel. It still works w/out the ring, if its like mine, there is enough of the handle left inside the rail to get a finger on to release it. Slide away, just wach yur fangers

No kidding, when I bought my current car in November I took the seats out and found $3.85 in change and a Chicago Transit Authority token. After getting that much change out of the car, my mileage improved!

well I found a spring thingy on the passenger seat, I just can't get the seat to move...if it's one of hte ones that doesn't move how does it come out? just have to take out all the bolts?

Is your passenger seat shaped the same as the drivers seat or is the seat back part of the back pad? If it is the same as the drivers seat then it should be adjustable for-and-aft and slide off the rails once un-stuck. I'm not familiar with the early 70-71 fixed seat.

if it has one of the springs it will come out. does the seat move back and forth when you pull up on the black handle next to the tunnel? biggie, did you get my private message?

Biggy72 01-11-2003 10:50 PM

I left ya a private message. The seat doesn't seem to move any, but it has all the same parts as the driver's seat. I don't know exactly what's going on but I'm going to work on it tomorrow and I'll figure out sometihng to get it out.

this shot shows the flat spring on the rail. the fore aft handle is on the other side. first you have to get the seat to move back and forth easily, shoot some lubricant down between the brackets and the rails. tilt the seat back, run the seat forward. with one hand pull the adj up and with the other press the flat spring up and the whole shebang should slide off. once you get it off clean the slider rails and spray some silicon lube before reassembly. these seats should move back and forth with little effort. biggie check pm.

here we go. if the rails on your car seat are this clean you will have no prob moving them (the seats) back and forth. i took the rails off the seat and ran them through the dish washer. don't tell my wife.

ok got it out. The guy I got it from had just put a the new seat in, and when he put it in he must have just got it started, sat on the seat and jammed it back in. The rail was all fusty and hte seat was jammed on. So after a little prying and an extra person to pry while i held the clips, it came out.
