Back to well of knowledge - electrical Prob

Okay another weekend of 914 work.

When I turn the ignition on I get a tic, tic, tic, from the relay turn signal/ emergency signal flasher unit (Identified as number 47 on schematic). The turn signals and flashers work normally and the tic is a little slower than the normal signal/flasher tic. Here’s another piece to the puzzle. When I was road testing my heater work from the weekend, the number 9 fuse fell out accidentally and all the gauges and generator light blinked or moved erratically. When I depressed the brake pedal all the gauges went dead and the generator light stayed on….

Any thoughts???

The effects of the fuse falling out are just as you describe. Scarry as hell isn't it! Did the ticking replay just start and what occured or what did you work on just before it started? If it just started, then I'd go for a ground problem. Good luck.

I'll run through my grounding issues. I pulled the fresh-air unit from the dash. Also the fasten seatbelt light connection came off too. I'll run throgh all those aires again tomorrow.

Thanks

Could this tic be the brake warning light -- the light doesn't seem to be working. I'll put a meter on the light tomorrow

The same flasher circuit is used for the brake warning light. So yes, that is very likely what you are hearing.

I have the same issue. I hear the ticking whenever the key is on, but don't get a corresponding flasing light unless the parking brake wire is grounded (my switch for that is rusted away). Since my car is not driveable yet, I've been forgetting about it until I can get the brakes done. I'm chalking it up to that for now in hopes that new fluid and pressure might reset the master cylinder (or I can finally find the reset button on it).

An interesting note that is the same on mine is that the cadence changes to that of the emergency flasher when that switch is turned on.

I know this isn't much help, but I can sympathize with your problem. Post the resolution if you find one and likewise I'll let you know if the brake work fixes mine. That probably won't come until later in the year, though!
