How low can......

you go?

I need some feed back on rack spacers.
I'm aiming for 4.5 inches at the front (doughnuts to ground), which is about .75 in lower than it was.
Anyone BTDT...or close. How was the bump steer?

I should prolly just put some in and forgetaboutit, but I'm curious.
The car is headed for the alignment shop as soon as it is done.
Don't want to do it twice.

I've always thought that you want the A-Arms // with the ground....what distance this puts the car depends on the dia. of the tires..........

I don't know much about the spacers but if your that low I can imagine you WILL have a real problem with the alignment and tie rod angle. I'd put in the spacers with out question.

JP, I lowered the Carrera TOO low. It smacks the front bumper doing parking lot approaches at speed. It makes a hell of a racket.

But I think the approach angle of the 914 is way more friendly. But check it out first.

JP, you still have the suspension disassembled? (I.e., torsion bars out?) If so, just stick a toe measurement gizmo (two straight-pins in the tread with a string works pretty gud) and jack that one corner through its normal range of suspension travel. You can measure from the string to some known point and see how the toe changes. You can also look at the angle of the tie rod and see if you do need to move the rack up...

My car is quite low. The Welt spacer kit seems to deal with the worst of the bump steer issues, but is a "non-optimal" solution. I still get significant kickback in certain situations, like the huge fast sweeper (turn 8) at Willow. And I'm on small tires too. We will probably raise the strut spindles and use the ERP-style bump kit. The guy who is helping setup my suspension has a trick laser-based bump steer gauge that helps you put in exactly the right amount of spacers.

The little conical thingie in the lower left is the trick bit.

Frankly, I've put my self into a box.

Some background:
Pre-project, the car sat 5.25 off the ground. The tires were 22.5 dia. The t-bars were not reindexed, but backed off to their lowest settings. Kick back was minimal.....less than either of my stock 911s.

The "new improved" set up is going to be 4.5 inches, but with 23.5 in dia tires.....for a drop (suspension wise) of 1.25 in.
This is gud cause there is a free negative camber gain of more than .5 deg....and I need all I can get....now for the ringer.

I'm going to "temporarily" be running the 22.5 dia tires.....good for 4 in ground clearance, nominal....2 inches at full compression.... tho I doubt it will ever see it with the 22mm
t-bars.

Chris, your adjustable tie rod ends look good.....how much (sigh)..I'm really getting tires of spending money on this effin' car.
