Pretty good tweeking, I tryed it, 2:59.87.. Try and run like a small bar more front braking.. It really helps.

AaronM 01-28-2003 08:10 PM

All I can say to you all is: wow. My best is only 3:14.31 with a 2.0. Still some tweaking to do I guess. :)

This is with all the mods on the car though, incase that makes a diff..

Racer Chris 01-30-2003 05:30 PM

Well, after a little fine tuning and testing, I am down to a 3:05.21 for the Cote d'Azur. That's in a 1.7L with 2.0 upgrade and standard gearbox.
I'll have to go back to Evolution Mode and buy a high speed gearbox, and try that.

Andyrew 01-30-2003 05:55 PM

Well after increasing the suspension to full hard, a little more brake, and some good driving, im down to 2:58:21.. Oh btw, the 2.0 is faster than a 1.7 (even with the 2.0 engine mod, gofigure..)

My time was with full upgrades too. Need to practice.

I must have an early version. I can't change anything on my car but the tranny and color. I guess I need some of those adjustable shocks, brake bias, and ride height.

You're talking about NFS: PU and not Racer, right? You have to "own" the car in NFS and change the settings in your garage. In order to own it, you have to have gone through the Evolution mode and bought it.

A little more practice and some more tweaking and I'm down to 3:01.46 on Cote D'Azure. I've found that I prefer very stiff shocks on a very low car but with lots of travel. More shock travel helps keep the car from leaving the road, which is very helpful on tracks like Normandie where there are a lot of rises to send you flying.

I just did a 3:02.6 at the Cote. Previously my best was a low 3:04. I still have some tweaking to do, and try for the perfect run. Going through the village at 170+kph is quite exciting.

Bee Jay (and others)

You need to go to one of the NFS sites and download a utility called "savegame".

Un zip it, read the readme file and run it. This little file will give you LOTS more cars, tracks etc. It will also let you tune each car's settings such as brakes etc...

Maybe this is a dumb question... but I always get my butt kicked on holeshots at the start of each race. What am I missing here?

Andrew9146 02-12-2003 03:59 AM

Ken,

What is 'holeshots'? Please explain

Andrew

The launch at the beginning of the race. If I get on the gas, I spin the tires, yet if I don't hit it hard enough to spin the tires, the other drivers easily get out in front of me.

It all depends on what rpm you are at when you are able to go, just like a real car. It just takes practice to get the timing right. Also just like the real thing all the cars are different :D

It's pretty hard when you don't really get a lot of feedback like you do in a real car. Any rpm range suggestions for a good 914 2.0 launch?

zymurgist 02-12-2003 07:28 PM

Oh, this is cool. I just played a quick race for the first time in a long time (I've been in Evolution mode and I just finished the Golden era) and I not only have all of my cars that I had in Evolution mode, but I have all tracks available! How cool is that?

Bee Jay 02-13-2003 07:06 AM

I did a 3:35 last night. By far my best time yet. I've been running solo, so I added two expert competitors. It's like having an instructor on board at the track. My time got better following the faster cars. I still haven't upgraded or downloaded any of the options. So I'm just running quick races with my red 914 2.0. The only thing I can change is manual or automatic tranny. I really want to try the F1 game. I tried the feed back wheel at a friends house. You really know when you go slightly off road. I should not be spending money on games like a kid, when the 914 needs boxter wheels and the Vette engine needs re-assembling.

1bad914 02-13-2003 03:12 PM

I downloaded racer, but I cannot get it to work. I'm using the keyboard to conrol it, I've changed the config to use keyboard but the car just sits there no matter what I do!

bludden 02-13-2003 03:26 PM

You may need to start the engine (s key) I have to do it twice and give a bit of gas. Shifting is A and Z. Acceleration is up arrow, etc.
You don't have a USB keyboard or anything do you? Also make sure you are running DirectX 8.1 or higher.

Andyrew 02-13-2003 05:33 PM

bee jay, Vette engine? for your 914? or do you have a vette?..
