Reverse light operation

I'm helping out a friend with his 914. The reverse lights are not working so troubleshooting found power to the switch but no power out of the switch. Removing the switch it tested fine but upon a closer look, no pin is there, so of course, it won't work. Easy enough to get a new pin but is it possible the pin has fallen inside of the transmission ? Also, does the long or short end of the pin (from the circlip) go into the transmission? Thanks

Don't believe the pin can migrate into the transmission, most likely fell out when the switch was removed for whatever reason.
Don't know the size but would expect some careful measuring will give you the correct length and the diameter will be whatever the size into the switch is .

Thanks for your input, I too am thinking the pin is captive in the bore but want to make sure. And it was yours truly that removed the switch and can confidently state the pin wasn't there. Too bad mechanical things can't talk to us, the stories would be great.

Maybe try a magnet on the bore before replicating the pin?

My reverse lights didn't work when I acquired my 914 a couple of years ago. The switch was fine. So I assumed it was the pin in the trans had worn down.

I recently sent me trans to Dr. Evil for rebuilding. He confirmed my suspicions and replaced the pin during the rebuild. He posted a video about it on his FB page.

Not sure if Mike (AKA Dr. Evil) is on the Pelican Forum (I know he is on 914 World).

Here's his FB page:

Here's his post with the vid:

Hope this helps in your quest to replace the pin.
