insulation pad

While we were coninuing our restoration project, we noticed that the insulation pad, the one behind the seat to decrease noise, was ruined. Does any one have anyadvice on replace or making a "substitution" with any other material?

Suggestion.....

Pull it out and throw it away - far away - unless you are doing a concours resto. Did you find a bunch of rust at the bottom edge of the pad/firewall?

Maybe a couple possibilities are the truck bed liner spray coating or the sound dampening adhesive-backed sheets. The latter are often sold at auto paint shops. There's also something called Soundcoat foam (http://www.soundcoat.com/) which you can get with a sound-deadening barrier. This stuff works great if you can find it. I've used it in commercial computer products. Definitely don't use asphault-based undercoating spray. Other choice is to just leave the pad off completely.

I hate to endorse AA but they sold me an extremely nice firewall sound/heat insulator. It's brand new, made in two major parts. The first part is dynamat. It goes up against the firewall. The second part is a 1/2 thick foam mat custom cut. It sticks to the dynamat. It's really a nice system but it's very pricy at $175. You might want to ask PP if they carry this set up for less.

Do a search here for "auto atlanta". Actually, I suggest doing a search on all the 914 BBSes you can find for them. Notice that, at least early on, every time the subject of AA comes up a flame war starts. Make up your own mind about them.
