radio antenna locations

I am wondering if there is a consensus on the best location for the car antenna? I have sealed over the drivers front fender location with the intent of putting the antenna some where else.
Any comments or ideas?

Where you you like the antenna? Obviously not on the driver's fender, but...

Passenger's front fender is another popular option.

Another option that isn't as popular, but has some appeal, is in the engine bay over on the side. It would come up either through the fixed grill part, or through the fixed solid panel. I have seen motorized antennas here, which is kinda trick. They are pretty stealthy, almost completely disappearing when down. Note that they may run into the battery or the relay board in this location. I think the cars I've seen with these antennas had relocated batteries...

There are kits to put the antenna on the windshield, like some late-model cars (and even, I think, some of the original 916s!!) do/did. I hear that the add-on kits have fairly mediocre reception, though.

I had the antenna location shaved from the front fender, and moved it back beside the engine cover inside the passenger rear wing. It looks good there and is nearly invisible when down. I don't have a real good picture of it, but you can see it here:

My battery is in the front trunk, might be in the way if it weren't

On my previous 914 the antenna was mounted to the drivers side of the engine deck. It was actually mounted to the grill part, if you can believe that. It had managed to break the grill where it was mounted (who couldn't see THAT coming?). I removed it and replaced the grill piece but I was at a loss as to where to mount it. I didn't want to put any new holes in the sheet metal so, I extended the antenna and hung it horizontally from the engine lid hinges in the engine compartment using tie wraps. Not particularly concourse, but it still worked OK and I didn't have to put new holes in the car. Plus it's not likely to be broken off when I go through the automatic car wash

antenna locations

I am about to have the hole on the drivers side welded up ,to get ride of it. The guy at the raido place said I could use a Di Pole
antenna. Any body have experence with one, reception not critical , Thanks Dave
