speed/reference sensor wires entering connectors
In the category that "no good idea goes unpunished"....pretty often my speed/reference sensor connectors require a "wiggle" before the car will start. There's no apparent rhyme or reason to it, but sometimes the car won't start and if I jiggle them at the connectors, it starts up fine.
So, of course I thought "why not get rid of the connectors and just splice the wires together permanently?" Duh. So with this in mind, assuming with three pins on each side of the plug that I would just match up the three color wires with each other, I cut both plugs off right at the part where the wires enter. PROBLEM. On the chassis-side plug, there are two wires (one white, one brown) as well as some kind of metal shielding mesh, which (I guess?) went to the third pin? On the sensor-side plug, however, there is one yellow wire, one black wire the same size as the yellow one, and two much thinner black wires - plus a small amount of similar "shielding" wire just "in there" So I'm at a loss....which wires go to which, and what's the deal with the shielding wire? -- I only did this one one of the plug sets, didn't touch the other yet but I assume it'll look the same? |
Ah, I see Lindsey has a replacement harness. Maybe I'll just do this the *right* way....

If you dissect the chopped off ends, you can figure out what connects to which terminal. You have to at least put new terminals and connector on sensor side. Unless you want to buy 2 new sensors.
Can purchase all 4 connectors and terminals for $20. Check out my DIY harness connectors list here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-924-944-968-technical-forum/878135-diy-harness-connectors.html |
