Tow Hook $ DME Qustions

Had no idea the tow hook was needed. Searched the trunk, no hook. Had a few heart palpitations when I saw the prices for this threaded nothing. Soooo, is there an option, or do I have to suck it up?

Second....searching on the DME, apparently 993-615-227-00 is the replacement for the one in my 968 which is 944-615-227-00 . Is this correct?

Thanx.

Tow hooks are less than $50, search for a genuine Porsche hook for a 996/Boxster it’s the same and about $35, here’s one.

The part number you quoted is for a DME relay and not the DME. If it is actually a DME relay you are looking for then that part number is good for a 968. You may also want to consider this one as it is far superior and much less likely to fail.

the 968 dme went through two revisions. 944.618.123.02 is the last revision after December '91.

tow eyes are cheaper than the damage a tow hook will do to a control arm or axle.

Ya'll bear with me. This stuff is all new to me. I thought I wanted the DME. I thought it is the one in position G5 (or something like that). I bought a new fuel relay, just have to figure out where that one goes! Whatever folks have been complaining about for years 'cause their car dies, that's the one I want. Isn't that the relay under the hood?

I hear ya Thomas. I'm not even gonna put this car on the road until I have the tow 'eye'. I just need the right one.

Folks, ur helping a lot. I swear I'll get up to speed, but for now my learning curve is still not curving that much!

It’s just terminology, the actual “DME” is the engine control unit under the passenger floorboard, whereas the “DME Relay” is a relay in position G5 that everyone carries a spare off.
