compatibility issues...
I've been looking into the suspension of my 1983 944 as of late, and I've been wondering... I have the stock steel A-Arms and control arms for front and rear... is it possible to switch over to the aluminum ones offered in same and later year 944 turbos/951s? Or are they not compatible? Mainly i'm looking to lower the weight of the car by switching some parts, of course, if i can find them affordably.

Serious question. Why would you want to? Compared to the steel a-arms in the front suspension, the aluminum ones are expensive to repair re: ball joints etc, and prone to crack under hard usage, including tracking and lowering by the installation of stiffer springs. From a geomotric standpoint, I see no advantage the aluminum arms offer, although I am more than willing to be ejudimicated.

i thought it would be a good idea for lightening the weight of the car... I'm just thinking of things, since my next one i will want to autocross with.

Yes, they can be fitted to the early models
Yes, they are lighter than the steel ones you have now Downside: You cannot replace the balljoints on the later models - they do last a while provided they are not abused (don't hit anything!) AFJuvat
