question about a rear knocking noise
I have noticed recently that there is a knocking noise in the rear of my 87 944 turbo when i accelerate and only when i accelerate, it gets louder and faster as i accelerate. I have been told that it mightbe my rear drive axle, and have also been told that it might be my uv joint i am open to any expertise since some of u may have had this problem.

Given that there are no u joints on any porsche it won't be that. U joints are on american cars...
not trying to make fun of you at all. There are cv joints and those are the most probable cause of the noise. I would say definitely get them checked. If it is clicking noise...kind of like something loose, then that is it. Hope this helps, Paul |

This may sound dumb, but check your rear wheels thoroughly. I heard a knocking noise coming from my back-end twice on two separate occasions. The first time i found a wheel weight that had come lose. The second time my left rear wheel was cracked. This may not be the problem, but its simply to check and saves you the time and money of having someone check your cv's.

My fault all i am not a car expert all i know is that the guy said somehting joints, and yes cv is corresct how could i even compare my car to an american p.o.s.
![]() It is more of a thunk thunk thunk thunk, lol my friend related it to the noise sebulbas pod makes in episode one allthough he is smokin somethin. It happens off and on never all the time but when it happens it only gets louder when i accelerate higher in rpms in gear, if in neutral i can rev it all to hell and nothin but the sec i get it in gear thunk and it happens all the way from the low rpms through the high getting louder and faster. |

I agree with paulhagedorn. My 83 did the same thing a few years back. It had the same clicking noise under acceleration (more as the speed increased) but it made no noises while rolling in neutral. The cv joints were replaced and now it runs fine.
