HELP! strange 944 starting problem
i recently purchased a 944, i replaced the fuel pump, filter, spark plug, coil, cap, rotor, wires....the car will start and die immediately...i narrowed it down to the engine temp sensor...so i replaced it...the car still started and died immediately...when i pull the connector off the temp sensor, the car would start but would idle rough....when i plug it back in (while the car is running) it dies...
does anyone know what might be going on.. |

Well its raining. I'm board, so i looked at the diagram.
http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/electrical/944_84_1_2.jpg It sounds like the temp sensor is bad. check its resistance with a meter. I do not know how much resistance it should have, but it should have some. I would pull it off, hook a meter to it and heat it up. the resistance should go down. if it has zero ohms its bad. You can simulate the sensors action with a varable resistor. You can pick one up a radio shack for about $1.00 get one that is 100KOhm or so. Good luck hope I helped |

i appreciate the help....i thought it was a bad dmec too, but i traded it out with a friend and i still had the same problem...the sensor is brand new and the resistance is correct...when it's plugged in the car will start just fine, but dies immediately...strange, when i unplug it, the car starts rough and idles rough...go figure.. is there another sensor that i'm missing that might have some control on the idle...
i don't know |

It could be your air flow sensor. mine did that once and I had for gotten to hook up the sensor. You can pull it off and manualy move the flaper valve. It may be stuck.
