Engine kicks back on starter
I have a low miles 87 base 944. When starting, the engine occasionally fires before TDC like a distributor turned too far advanced. I checked the timing marks on flywheel and camshaft/distributor pulley. They are OK. Thanks in advance!

If you have the small diameter, gear reduction starter, it generates enough stray magnetism into fooling the flywheel TDC sensor into firing on the compression stroke.
Porsche introduced a new sensor bracket, and a sleeve to combat this problem. The other fix is to replace the starter with one of the older design.
