Factory Alarm functions
I have a factory alarm and just got a key made for it. What exactly is it suppose to do when i turn it on? All it is doing is not letting me start the car when it is on. I thought a alarm was suppose to also go off when you pull the door handle? Thanks

Mine does not honk! It just doesnt let you start the car, that is cool!
MyToy944: I went to the first locksmith and they told me it couldnt be done! So i called the dealership and they stopped making the keys for the alarms. So i was referred to a different locksmith out of town, and they could do it. What they did was cut the back off of the cylinder, take it apart, fit the key and put it back together and glue the back back on with waterproof silicone. The key works great, my car just doesnt honk! Damnit! Anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks John |

Hi John,
Great idea....you've inspired me! Have you checked your fuses? Did you take the lock mechanism out, or did he cut the cylinder from inside the car, behind that trim panel? Just wondering where I should start. Thank you for any help, I really want to do this! |

Possibly a loose wire somewhere back there where it was taken apart?

Well there is only 2 wires that hook up to the back of the cylinder and they are hooked up good.
Hey Trav, I had to take the actual cylinder in to the locksmith, so you need to take it off. I took the whole inside panel off but was not neccessary. Open your door, and look in the door sill on the right side, there is an ovel hole, take the plastic vent thing off, and reach up in there and unhook the 2 wires. Then on the outside of the car, pop off the black plastic cover(kinda hard) and theres a nut on it, use a big wrench or channel locks to take it off and the lock cylinder will come out from the back so again grab it through that hole from the inside, and woila its out, then take it in to have it made! Putting it back together should be no problem. Good luck! John |

Hi John,
I have a clue, but I emailed in case you don't check the forum. It seems there's a 3rd horn dedicated to the alarm. |

is it possible that a car would have the key hole and not have the alarm? (as in an option that could have been added). I have the keyhole but the alarm has never been enabled as far as I know (never got the key - third owner).

no, if you have the keyhole, you have or at least had an alarm.

Eleg,
I was in the same situation as you. If there is a key hole to the right of the driver door, there was a factory alarm on it when it was new, if it works or not, im not sure. I had no clue if mine would work or not since i didnt get a key, but it bothered me so i had it done and found out it works(for the most part). I would bet it would, unless the previous owners cut wires for no good reason in the dash and stuff. John |

I don't think any of the wires would be cut (that is something I will check when it gets warm again) but I was speaking to my old man (previous owner) and he says there was no relay for it. I wonder if a locksmith around here would do it......

I had a key made at home depot. I had an original alarm key but it was getting real bent and old... and I matched an Audi or VW key to it. The only thing different is that the VW/Audi key was just a shy bit longer on the base... but if you match the key correctly you can cut it fine. Use your thumb to prevent the key from going all the way in... and it works perfectly
