stuck heater side control

the lower slide control for my climate control on my 85 944na (early) is stuck it will go back and forth between half way and full heat but my heater wont go off, has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone know what it may be?

My 83' 944 has the same problem. I had a broken slide clip. That's replaced, but I still can't turn off my heat. I've ordered a new heater control valve. I intend to replace that in the next couple of weeks or so. I'll post how it turns out.

My 83 944 is the same way. I just fiddle with it for a while to turn on and off the heat. Unlike most stuff on the car, the heater control knobs on early 944s seem to be of low quality engineering. I don't know how to fix it, but I can reassure you that you aren't the only one with that problem.

Check the fuse(main fuse box on 86 944) for the heater..when it is blown you have continous, uncontrolled heat.

Finally got around to replacing my heater valve. What a job! Five hours later, I seem to finally have cold air. The valve was definately the culprit with my heat problem.

My defroster doesn't work, the slider never allows air to be blown through the upper dash vents, could this be my problem as well? A clip on the slider at the center console? any ideas tips?
Thanks.

Neither, feels just like the heat slider, or the other vent one, maybe a bit more loose, but not by much, so what do you suspect? Cable, a clip?, the fork that holds the cable, right behind the slider it self? I don't have any idea about the inner workings of this system, never had it apart. Is it hard? time consuming? I used to work as a mechanic, and I do believe I have a general understanding of things like this, but I'd appericiate more clues/tips/ideas.
Thanks

I had the same problem, a small piece of plastic with the retaining clip for the cable broke off. I fixed it by tie rapping it to one of the other cables so the cable would move though the housing.
