factory alarm

Greetings, I have an 86 944 with what I beleive to be is the factory alarm mounted to the under side of the steering colum. I found this while I was going for the wiring diagram off the aftermarket one. If what I have is the factory alarm, can someone please tell me how it functions. If not the alarm, what the hell is it?

Should be your engine management computer (known as a DME to those in the know).

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression the DME was down by the kick panel
someware. This thing is black and a little bigger that a pack of smokes and is loosely held in place to the underside of the steering collum.

on an '86 the DME box is under the carpet, where the passenger keeps their feet. Pull back the carpet, and the plywood board.

I believe the alarm brain is right next to it. it's a small black plastic box with blue writing.

The silver box under the steering column is probably the cruise control brain.

an easy way to tell if you have a factory alarm is look on the outside of the body, about 8" behind the driver's door handle. There will be a keylock right in the middle of the body panel that does not appear to connect to anything. That is your alarm switch. it's just right out in the open, and puzzling if you don't know what it is.

My 84 944 still has it's working factory alarm, and its a key just behind the drivers doorhandel, the alarm is basicly a relay and flasher hooking your dome lighe to the car horn, not hiteck but verry loud.
