Which floormat shape is correct?
 

My recently purchased '84 came with some nice thick black floormats with "944" in white print. There is not a label that I can see but they seem to be good quality.

I removed the drivers side, though, because there is a flap of carpet that extends from the front and covers the deadpedal / footrest on the left-most side and this was secured by velcro, which did not seem correct.

It looks like most images I can find of 944 mats don't have this "flap" but some do have the flap. Are both designs correct?

Is this a matter of personal preference or is one correct for a certain range of model years?

The flap was designed to cover the dead pedal area, but turned out to be problematic, so later designs left the flap off.

The tan drivers mat doesn't look correct where it goes under the drivers seat where it needs to go around the seat rails.

I had the ones on the left for a very long time - George is correct aboutthe flap for the dead pedal. If not secured, the flap folds over.

I'm using aluminum diamond plate - I used a cardboard template and custom made the mat. I have a rubber edge around the perimieter so it doesn't cut the floor carpet. The mat doesn't move. My only problem is I should have clear coated the mat after I painted them flat black. Over time, the paint chips off.For the dead pedal, I have a Renline plate the wraps around the dead pedal. It is secured with (2) screws.

1985 had two versions.. 1985 and 1985.5 - This was when Porsche most notably changed the dash. A side effect likely was a change in seats/ seat rails as they were trying to improve room for the driver. Could be why the two mats look different where they go under the seat, as well as the "dead pedal" flap.
