Hatch Pins - split vs solid
I need new hatch pins for my 84 as they are worn and rusted in place. They are the split tip version.
Should I replace them with the same split-tip or is the solid a better choice? It's unclear to me if the solid tip version is a different part or an updated version of the early split tip. Do the later pins only work with the later receiver as well? Thanks.

The pins are interchangeable. I suggest spraying them with penetrating oil, tapping them with a hammer to help penetration and then order new ones. Also, I recommend ordering new receiver nylon cups from only944 and installing them at the same time. Tip: The cups may not fit right away so use the new pin with 80 grit sand paper wrapped around the taper to hone out the cup until the fit is where you need it. These new pins and cups will prevent the rattle of the rear hatch.

My pins were rusted solid and couldnt be separated even with liquid wrench and vicegrips. Fortunately a sawzall made things easy.
![]() I put in the receiver cushion cups from 944online. Maybe the only944 ones are better but these seemed easier to install. ![]() |
