CV Joint Runout

Having just replaced one half shaft on my 944T, I have begun looking at the other shaft. There is a little play in each of the CV joints on that axle. Does anyone know how much play is normal? This is a track car and gets extreme use. Thanks.

I don't know how representative of my cv's are of the turbos'...

However mine have ZERO play after I believe about 30k miles.

Are you sure the play you're talking about is in the CV joints and not in the transaxle (diff/pinion), I ask this, because the latter is normal/acceptable.

I put my car on the lift and get under it. I grab the shaft and shake it in a direction perpendicular to its axis (up and down or front to back). It has play in it. The new one has no play. The play is in the CV joints, not the tranny. This makes me think it should have its joints renewed. I just got through having one completely come off at the tranny flange. Fortunately it happened on the highway and not on the track. The one that came off at the tranny also came apart dropping its bearings on the highway. I was at full throttle and moving smartly when it happened.

I just had my shaft come off on the wheel side. It happened at a start when I was trying to impress my wife. I guess a couple of bolts had been loose and when I applied all of the power from the start, it sheared off the rest of the bolts. Pretty easy fix. My CVs have no play in them. Good luck
