Safelite came out today to install a new windshield on my 1987 Porsche 944 S.
The windshield they brought was the non-antennae model. It was 1" too narrow, and did not fit correctly, so they cancelled the install. After doing more research, Safelite says the antennae model is 1" wider and should fit. However, they do not have any of those available, and are searching for one. PLEASE HELP! Where can I find a reliable source of 944S windshields? This car will be an off-road race car, so probably not my last windshield replacement. Safelite Part Number: FW603 GGY (this is the antennae glass) Thanks in advance. Update: early-944 windshields seem to be 1" narrower than the late-944 i have looked and looked for hours, and can't find a late-944 windshield the only place was the dealership, but i'm not paying $1000 for a windshield

If it’s an race car why not fit Lexan?

But the ARA requires DOT-approved windshields. This car has to be street legal and pass state inspection. :'(

I was told the early pre-86 models were the smaller windshields. My 86 turbo has a windshield in it with the dimensions you've described. It seals, but has these unsightly gaps. Once things get back to normal I intend to have it replaced.

I'm surprised it fit at all, Safelite couldn't install mine, it was way off. Who do you buy your windshields from? Thanks!!!

This windshield came with the car. The seal hides most of the gap, but not all. It is awful to look at. It is apparently sealed well as I have no noise...but I've never had it out in the rain.

I had my 1986 944 windshield replaced by Safelite about a year ago and they had a hard time finding one. I finally settled for a non-antenna one but the fitment is correct. Good luck!

FWIW, you can run a regular length of wire around the perimeter of the windshield (under the trim) and attach it to the plug in your radio and have a functional antenna if your new glass doesn't have one built-in.
10 years ago when I converted my early NA (fender popup antenna) to a 951 front end that's what I did and it works fine. |

There is no way the early-model windshield would of fit my car. They didn't even have enough glass overlapping the trim to bond it. We spent an hour trying to figure it out with no luck.

I would use the cheaper windshield if it would fit, but it doesn't.

That backs-up my research, I need the late-944 windshield. The problem is, they appear to be sold-out and not available. . . . If anyone knows where I can buy a windshield from, please let me know. Anyone who bought a windshield 2019/2020 or knows where one is sitting? (( Must be a late-944 model windshield. ))

That part number is the early-944 glass that didn't fit my car. Looks like you have rubber trim covering the sides, so i wouldn't be able to see how they attached it to your a-pillars. They probably did something special to get it to attach properly. Which Safelite office did you use? I can have my location call your location and ask them for instructions and part numbers. Thanks!!! |

Fit is perfect! I don't see any gaps, especially any 1 inch gaps.

Now this is what the wrong size looks like. First the driver side. Not too bad.
![]() Next is the passenger side. Look at that gap. ![]() Finally the passenger side with a half inch thick piece of caulk saver stuffed inside. ![]()

Now i'm really confused...
CarGuyNeil has a non-antennae windshield which is the early-944 windshield, but it fits just fine... then DME posts pictures of exactly what Safelite brought to me, a windshield that is 1" too small however, the windshield part number they brought me, matches CarGuyNeil's windshield... I am so lost... ... |
