Lower control arms
I have an 84 944 that has 86 aluminum control arms. Want to install 89S2 struts, spindels, and brakes. I know about the wheel offset and have been told that the control arms were lengthened during the 86/87 model change. Can anyone out there tell me if the inner pivot point on the cross member changed or did the outer ball joint pivot point change? Also what was the length measurment for the change?
Do not want to tear everything apart and find that it will not go back together. I have ordered a set of camber plates so that I can have more adjustment range. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

If you swap the control arms along with the spindles and the brakes you will not have a problem. I would suggest a swap to an 86 model suspension as it'll be a whole lot less headache and you get to keep your wheels. I don't know the control arm length difference off hand but it should be around 20mm. The chasis mounting points should be compatible if the control arms you're buying are complete, same goes for the subframe. As long as you have the bushings for the late model parts, you should be fine.

To change over (done it) you need new, longer tie rods, same breaks/roters will do, longer controll arms, and the newer style strut top (the part you can see from under the hood).
