Dash indicator lights, what do they mean??
I have the 1986 944 NA new to me by about 6 months. There are two indicator lights I have no idea what they are indicating. One is orange shaped like a diamond and comes on and off with acceleration and deceleration. I assume a vacuum indicator but what for?? There is already a MPG indicator gauge. The other is at the top of the dash between the speedo and tach, rectangular and red with an exclamation point in the center. I only see it illuminate when the lights are on at night. When I am coming to a stop it will be dimly lit and then will get brighter for some reason. Foot on or off the brake doesn't seem to matter. I don't want to ignore it if it's a critical indicator.
Thanks, John

not familiar with the up shift light but i would check your batteries static charge and alt output.. (a loose belt would squeal a bit at start up trying to bring the battery back up.)

Hey John,
That orange lamp is your upshift indicator - it comes on to let you know when to shift to the next higher gear for best fuel efficiency.

Any help on this one?? "The other is at the top of the dash between the speedo and tach, rectangular and red with an exclamation point in the center. Check to see if the light goes out as you increase the idle a few hundred rpm. If so, either set the rpm higher or check the Alternator for proper output. Does the battery check out?

Good question...I only notice it when its dark and the lights are on. Nothing in the daytime when the lights are off. Idle is at 1K and the battery is charged. It could be possible the lights are putting the extra load on that is causing the warning. I will check the output next time i'm in the car. Currently its at the spa getting some cosmetic paint and body work. I may not see it for a couple weeks. Thanks all for the information. I'm slowly getting educated here. The forum is a big help!!
Thanks, John
