Caliper cross reference

I am looking to replace calipers on my 1983 944 NA and wondered if there is an Audi or VW caliper that may fit.

Hi Hugo,

Are you looking for something that’s an upgrade, or just whether other VAG cars used the same calipers as your 944?

Best of luck, John

Just seeing if I can replace a cracked rear caliper on my 944. Thanks for the response.

Ok, good to know. That will not be a difficult or expensive item to find and save the risk/hassle of looking for a cross reference. They are handed so you’ll want to specify which side of the car. And if you let us know where you live, someone here may have one. The 924/44/68 Used Parts Classifieds here on Pelican are a great place to put a (free) WTB/ Want to Buy posting. Just beware the occasional scammer, usually showing only 1 or two posts.

BTW, mass merchandisers like NAPA, Autozone and Advanced used to carry remanufactured 944 calipers, but the vendor stopped doing them.

If you haven’t tried already, try JustJoshin dot com or Plyhammerparts dot com ... two reputable 944 dismantlers.

If you decide to rebuild any calipers beware of some of the aftermarket rebuild kits. I just rebuilt all 4 of mine and the Centric kits have piston dust seal retainers that aren't spring steel nor retain. They are not nearly as wide or as thick. Ended up reusing my old ones after cleaning them. The new ones were useless. Sometimes the cheap alternatives just don't work out
