Update on recent purchase of 944 and dash question

I picked up an '86 944 about two weeks ago. I'm waiting to get the belts, rollers, water pump, etc. replaced. In the meantime, I'm working on a couple of issues and could use some input:

1) Dash cracks - As with most 944's, my dash has a lot of cracks. This won't be a "restoration" but I do want it looking nice. I've been looking at the Coverlay dash caps. They look nice in photos, and I can get a brown one as a close match to the rest of the interior. I'm assuming someone here has tried this, although I came up with nothing in a search. Any comments on these?

2) On the same note, my seats are in very good shape with only one non-seam 1 1/2 inch split on the driver's seatback. The leather on the seats is good, but the drivers bolster finish is worn. I'd like to repair the small split and clean and re-dye the front seats or driver's seat. Any suggestions as to a vendor. I like Leatherique, but not sure about their repair kit. I'm also trying to confirm my color code. It's brown, likely medium brown, but the line on the vehicle option tag is Paint No. / Interior LA1Y / LA1Y LU. Can't find a similar upholstery code.

3) At start up, the motor shakes at idle, smooths out at 1000-1100 rpm. When warm, the idle is smoother, still not perfect but better. Thus far, I've refilled fuel ( 1/3 of tank of undetermined age when I got car), added a bottle of Techron (can't hurt), replaced the air filter, and cleaned the throttle body (it was seriously dirty). Next will be cleaning the MAF. Any next steps? I may have my local mechanic take a look when we're doing belts.

Except for haphazard maintenance, the car does not appear to have been abused. I want a fun driver that ultimately looks nice and runs reliably. When all comes together regarding the motor, I'll change transmission oil, and look at brakes and suspension. This could become a fun casual track car in the future.
