Odometer and tripometer stopped working
On the way to work today, I noticed that my odometer and tripometer are no longer working on my '86 951, stuck on their current numbers. The speedometer is working fine and I don't hear any noise from the cable. Have any of ya'll ever fixed a problem like this? Am I looking at purchasing a new gage or can this on be salvaged?

i will make it my goal to find the person at VDO responsible for supplying Porsche with one of the lousiest odometers known to mankind.
the VDO odometers in the 1970s-early 1990s porsches are some of the worst ever made. DO NOT buy another one, i've had a grand total of 5 of them in my 2 cars. i also notice that my VW has a motometer odometer. hmm, maybe VW didn't fall for the trick that Porsche did? live with it, the odometer sucks. they can be repaired, but don't spend more than $50 doing so. i'm looking into odometers that will replace the Porsche one. i've found a few, but they are really expensive. i'll keep everyone updated on my findings. obin |

The odometer gear gone(hard rubber or plastic). I tried two us 86 944na, speedometer/odometer assemblies, all had bad gears. Your best bet is a rebuild or a rebuilt replacement. www.partsheaven.com(CA)($175.00 no core). www.***********(FL), I think $150.00 with core.

just fixed mine, 83 944, real easy, gear on the shaft that runs thru the odometer number drums engages a worm gear on the upper right side may have slid on the shaft enough to not engage any more. I just open up speedometer, pulled off gear, swiped some plastic parts from my sons model and made a washer to keep the gear from sliding to far one way , and a collar on the outside. some epoxy and bingo!!

Just thought that I would mention it since nobody else has, but Im sure that you already know: Never reset the tripometer while moving. This breaks a little plastic connector piece inside and can cause the tripometer and sometimes the odometer as well to stop working. Best advice that I ever received. I have followed this closely and still have the original-88 944.
