Still overheating

I redid my whole cooling system and it has no leaks whatsoever now. The coolant i put in last week is still in there at the max mark. I checked to see if there was any pressure in the system and there was. I checked all the tubes to see if coolant was going through and they were. Both my fans work but only because they are wired to stay on constantly. Last night it was very cold out and my temp gauge got almost into the red when i stopped it in my drive way. It was about 2mm under the 3rd line on the highway at like 80mph. and at the 3rd line cruising around town. My oil pressure is decent 4.5 bar on highway and 4 crusing around town and 1.5-2 at stop but its not what i want it to be using 20w50.

Also another thing i noticed last night is i turned on my heat because it was cold and it came on fine until it hit about the 3/4s mark then it turned into cold air but if i push the front window defroster i get like 110 degree heat in my face...why is that? Something to do with the thermo?

When you stop and it's almost to the red line, put your hand on the center of the radiator and see if it's cold or hot. IT sounds like you have a blocked up radiator that is not working as efficently as it should.

While I SUPPOSE the radiator could be blocked I think it's unlikely given the syptoms you describe. I think you still have air in the system. It can be difficult to purge all the air out after fixing leaks, flushing, etc.

Are you sure the heater was turned to full 'hot' as you filled, with the proper technique using the bleeder screw and pressurizing the filler until water spouted from the bleed screw? If you have water coming out with lots of air bubbles that's still not good enough.

Also...you've replaced your thermostat, right? Just making sure because if it's not opening then you won't get coolant flowing to the radiator, but it still sounds ot me like you've got air in the cooling system [since your heat is turning cold].

Good luck! It can be frustrating.

A cold radiator is an excellent symptom of blockage and also air in the system.

Jack the font on the car up and bleed it with the nose slightly elivated. You will get it fogured out, I ahd the same issues, and now my 951 never sees ANYTHING past the 1/4 mark even on the hottest days.

Mmmhmm, I did everything right when filling the coolant in and such and from I saw there is no air in my system, I mean the heat works until It gets to the 3rd line and it only works after if i hold down the front defroster button. I have noticed my radiator is cold in spots when I put my hand on the front when its running ...I cant get my hands on the other side because they would be gone if i did that. Ive drained the coolant about 3 times in the past month though so it shouldnt be clogged but what is a godo way to get anything blocking it up out?

Alright today i flushed the coolant again to get anything out of the radiator that is blocking it up.....didnt work. I run my car for a while and drive it around until its up to the 3rd line. I touch the radiator ...there is no heat from the radiator. I feel around on it from the front of the car and feel a little warmth on the top right facing the car. Thats ALL, what should i do about my clogged up radiator?

Hi Cooler

If your radiator is sound in the core, you only need to have one of the tanks removed. And have your local radiator repair shop rod the tubes to clear them. This is quite a simple job to do, but needs to be done by some one with the right tools. If it is beyond clearing then I would replace it with a copper core radiator, rather than a aluminium one. Allso a radiator should be warm to hot on the engine outlet side, and cooler on the engine inlet side. Yes i would say it's blocked and requires cleaning.

Regards

Roger

I had similar symptoms on my car (87 924S) and it just about drove me nuts. I had to replace the thermostat for a second time to get the system to work properly.
Before, the gauge would run at the third line or above, almost touching the red on a hot day.
After my second replacement thermostat, (lo temp) it never gets above half, even on the hottest Central Valley day with the AC running full blast.

Make sure it's installed the right way. Air bleeding is essential.
