Question Extrange noise ?

84 944 auto

Hi,

Please help me with this:

When I`m driving the car, sometimes I ear a strange noise a squeak like a bearing in the rear wheels, I don`t know which one exactly but I believe is one of the rear wheels.

Any idea ?

Thanks and regards

Are you going fast or slowly?
Are you cornering?
Are you going over a bump?
Are you accelerating or slowing down?
Does it always occur in the same gear?

Mine makes a slight squeak when I drive slowly with the windows open. It is a brake noise. The rear rotors are very slightly warped and touch the pads as they rotate. Can't hear it with windows closed. Happens more in warm weather with hot brakes.

To confirm, you could raise rear of car, run motor and let wheels turn. Listen to see if it occurs. Be careful when you look around. It is potentially dangerous to do this. Just keep your wits about you if you choose to do it.

I have an idea.
I do not know if the construction is the same on the 924 as on the 944, but I also have this sound. Its the rear window/bagage door. One of its fastner to the lock, might be screwed out a little?!
If you lift the bagage door on the spoiler a little up and down, you will notice if there is a clearence. If yes, screw the screw in or out a little!
With other words, its the rubber sealing which can make that sound.

I had a metalic squeal from my rear wheel area a few months ago. Sounded like metalic scraping. Before long, the sound got significantly worse. Turned out to be one of the rear axel CV joints was dry. A simple 30 minute job of pulling the axel, greasing, and re-installing solved the problem. No squealing sounds since.
