Question resistor location/relay prong #'s?

Overheating sucks, especially in stop-and-go traffic. I've replaced both relays, fuses, and the thermoswitch on my '84 944. My A/C works when I turn in on, but my driver's side fan does not operate at high speed. For some reason my fan just doesn't want to operate. I can hear it running on low after the car has shut off, and I've jumped it directly to the battery so I know it works. Also, my heater switch does not work. Are these both connected to the same problem? And where are these resistors located? What are problems associated with bad resistors?

Also, my old cooling fan relay had 6 prongs (4 large, 2 small). My new one only has 4 large, and is also a lot shorter. Was this a change, or could I have the wrong relay?? Thanks.

I would suspect the relay is wrong. Sounds like a relay that operates in two modes; one set of contacts when off, the other when the relay is energized. In order for a relay to have that capability, it will have a minimum of five pins: two for the coil, the common center, and one each for the "either/or" circuit operation. These can be purchased fairly cheaply at allkinds of places including "ALL ELECTRONICS", for less than $5. If all six contacts are used, it generally means that the relay is capable of two separate circuits; either both on when energized, both off, or one of each. Use an ohmmeter with the relay out and see what pins read in resistance. the contacts will read darn close to Zero resistance while the two pins that actuate the coil will have some resistance. Sorry..I am getting carried away here....My books are in the garage right now, but I would suspect you have the wrong relay
