BOV's I want that PSSH Sound
will just a direct billet diverter BOV do the job? or would i have to have a custom flange welded on to use a aftermarket BOV like Greddy or HKS. I dont want to spend the 800 bucks for a hard pipe kit and then another 1500 for a MAF cause the pipes wont work with a regular cone filter kit
|
Why?
|
i like the sound
|
In that case order some custom hard pipes from Lindsey are Speedforce, should only set you back a few hundred for the sounds. Those plus a BOV that dumps to atmosphere will get you there.
|
IF you like the sound, buy an MR2 turbo and have fun with it!

I always liked the sound of a race ported RX7 and a couple HKS BOVs. Pissed off weed eater with a purge, how can you not like that?
I would say just get a BOV and plumb it yourself, but I"m not too famaliar with the 951 set-up. BTW-one of my buddies has an MR2 turbo with a Apexi BOV (the twin chamber one), he recirculated his so it isn't real loud, just enough to let ya know that he isn't your typical 4-banger :D |
The 951 is a recirc system by default, the BOV sits on the intake boot.
This whole thread sounds like a commercial for "2 FAST and 2 FURIOUS." Change the BOV, and remove that nasty hole from your fuel map, you'll be running 9's again in no time. Just overnight some parts from Japan. If you're gonna advertise your turbo setup, might as well accent it with some under car neon. |
I'm sensing that Scott R isn't a huge fan of the jap. scene. And it does kinda sound like a 2 fast 2 furious thing. EXCEPT I think that I can run a 10 sec. guarter right now on pump gas as long as I have my NOS :D I just need to remember that I have to go hijack some trucks tonight with my civic.

No sorry, not an "import" fan. Cheap plastic garbage designed for fuel econ and grocery getting. When you think of the truley great performance manufactures out there what comes to mind?
Porsche....Ferrari...Lambo.....Honduh? Something wrong with that. Now when I think of squeezing into parking spaces at the supermarket, or which car fits a "baby seat" the best, then I think Honduh. When I think loud fart cans, outlandish stickers and fake BOV's I think 16 year old on a budget with mommies hand me down Civic. Just my humble opinion. |
I am going to take this literally and assume that the PSSH sound is what you are really after. I have a Huntley stage III MAF setup with the stock intercooler pipes and stock BOV, and I have the PSSH sound. When you open up the air intake of the car by installing an MAF manifold, the stock BOV can be heard easily. If your valve is not blown, if it is blown you will sound like a gobbling turkey. I am not to familiar with MAP kits so I do not know what the intake looks like on those. It might give you the same result. Just an idea
|
I voted for leave it alone, because it sounds like you just want to make a pshhh sound without better performance. If so, there is a lot of other cars you can make a pssh sound for less money.
Now if you want to actually make more power, MAP all the way!! |
take an audio recording of "Fast and the Furious" and then hook up an external speaker under the car - VOILA! - you have the the PSSSH sound. J/K
|
uhmmm .......... the speaker under the car would work great....
Get an MP3 Player and run a speaker into the engine bay.... that way you can turn up the psssshhhh sound as you see fit..... run at least 300 watts through it .... you want your neighborhood to know that you mean business!!!! Then you could add this for the complete effect....... ... Kit to Complement Your Pssssssshhh Sound  |
whoa now guys, you'll screw up your cars idle and off throttle performance since as Scott said the car is a recirculation system w/ the bov in place, at idle and off throttle you'd be sucking in unmetered air when vented to atmosphere if you did so w/ the stock valve. Plus you'd be letting metered air escape richening the mixture. Unless you have a map system upgrade or stand alone I wouldn't recommend it. As Jackell said the stock valve in a maf setup is extremely noticeable and only costs $35, plus you'd be gaining alot more power w/ a maf or map. Since you haven't even messed w/ increasing the boost, my vote is for you to get a set of chips(guru-cheapest plus they come w/ a 3.0bar regulator and reliaboost(boost enhancer), after that loses it's fun you'll be able to make your decision between the maf or map. By then the MAP vs. MAF debate might be settled.

that has to be one of the funniest things I have seen in a while. From now on we have to refer to the neon lights, fart can, big ass wing, and the BOV electronic sound generator, the BOV-ESG. I am still laughing,
|
I have an idea that I think will net me a small fortune. How about this....Fake plastic turbo chargers that zip tie/bolt to all of these imports? I am thinking a joint venture with the fake BOV people to modify their existing product to also sound like a spooled turbocharger. What do you think, a goldmine or what? Any partners?
|
Yeah, but to customize the sound, you really got to have a yen for it (or a few thousand yen.....)
Hell, back in HS, I had a friend with an aniemic Ford 6, but the car also had a dynamite sound system and a tape deck with the sound of a snarling big block. |

man you talk alot of **** against japanese cars. but have you ever raced a REAL jap sports car? not a civic or accord, but something that was actualy meant to be a sports car like RX-7 turbos, Supra turbos, or WRX. those are real performance cars wether you like it or not. id put money on many jap cars against a porsche any day, straight line or road course. they may be cheap compared to "europes greatest" but the low cost of entry and mods makes it easier to go fast. you have more money left over to buy the power mods. oh anfd last i checked, germany imports porsches into the US. making the car that you drive an IMPORT. just because it comes from europe doesnt make it anything different. the euro cars are no better at making sports cars than japan, theyve jus been doing it longer. |

I can't wait to see the first riced out Hybrid Civic. I don't know what all of the import geeks are going to do when Honduh goes to Hybrid only production in a few years. Take a hint, it's an "economey" car, not a sports car. I really don't see Honduh or Hyundai as "sports car manufacturer," just cheap transportation. |
