Guards Red Paint code
I'm trying to verify the paint code for my 1983 Guards Red 944. I did a search on this website and it seems like there are a few different codes out there. Is the code for Guards Red "LM3A" for 1983? I need to get some body work completed and want to make sure I get the correct paint. Thanks for your help!

I noted mine had some clear coat flaking, but I had the impression it was a solid paint like acrylic enamel. Maybe the body shops want to work with basecoat claercoat now. I see a lot of cars from this era that were early clearcoat jobs and the clearcoat is flaking off. in my case it maybe that only some of the car is clearcoat.
I wanted to polish mine and with acrylic enamel that doesn't; have clear coat you can cut polish and take a very thin layer off, but with clear-coat maybe I need a different approach. You should be able to buy the paint in guards red in a spray bomb or liquid and you may have this choice. The body shop will know what they want. I just need to do some touch ups and I noted that some of the parts sources carry it in spray bombs.. I've also heard of some spray bombs that you can get mixed to the color of your choice that are epoxy evidently they have a way to release the catalyst, then they will harden even if you just use some. the advantage is it's tougher paint.. I'm not an expert on any of this , but I'd like to learn more about the new types of bodywork chemicals, putties, paints etc as my knowledge is so outdated. I figure I can probably use carnuba wax or turtle wax and do some hand rubbing. I was wondering if I should buy a polisher. a simonizer? I've seen some do it wrong and end up with swirly marks all over. I'd like to do it without spending lots on equipment and supplies. there is a label at the back of the hatch just under the carpet. I found it inside just behind the licence plate. unbutton the carpet a bit along the top edge there. mine says "paint code/ interior code LM3A/ LM3A" My interior is sort of a burgundy/brown color. and mine is guards red. Just below that there are a list of numbers that refer to the options it had at it's build date. I'm planning to look up those codes, its in the factory manual. just for reference mine ( EARLY 85 ) says : C03 158 404 409 425 454 533 650 715 Last edited by Monkey Wrench; 02-28-2023 at 11:49 AM.. |
