Porsche Crest Steering Wheel Switch Complex

Does anyone know how to pull out the switch complex of a 1988 944 n/a? My wipers don't function anymore and after the process of elimination, I am down to the switch thingy behind the steering wheel.

I took the steering wheel and the VDO complex off but couldn't find any screws or clips to unto in other to pull out the switch complex. How can I tell this is the problem once I puul it out.

Can I replace just the wiper switch after I pull it apart or will I have to replace the whole switch module?

You have to replace the whole switch assembly.
Make sure it is the switch that's faulty as we rarely change them.

There is a 10MM bolt on a cuff at the bottom of the signal cluster loosen it and the switch cluster slides off.

IS there a ground somewhere that I just can't find?
I found one at the motor that drives the wipers. but the wiper is good. I hot wired it to the battery and it worked.

Is there a ground underneath the steering wheel that might be loose?...
Couldn't fing any.

Anymore pointers?

Tried the relay? Use the wiring diagram and check the power and ground circuits.

There is only one relay that I found. It controls the wiper delays.
If it goes bad... does it cause the wiper to stop working all together?

Initially, the wiper was eratic. Will work sometimes and will go off by itself.... then come back on after a while. I thought maybe the is a loose ground somewhere or a loose connection but couldn't ohm the circuit out because I couldn't take off the switch cluster.

There is a ground under the WHEEL. In addition, over time these switches seem to develop a lot of internal resistance. The first thing to suffer when the switch heads south is usually the washer motor. More resistance = less current=less output. That can be cured by using a relay to supply the voltage to the washer motor and using the switch to activate the relay!!! I would still suspect a lousy ground in the column.
