Speedometer Not Working!

Hey does anyone know if the speedometer and the trip meter is controlled by the same speedo cable? My trip odometer is still counting but the speedometer isnt moving.. i cant tell how fast im going.. please help!

85.5 and later 944's do not have a mechanical cable coming off of the left front wheel. Instead there is a sensor (pulse generator) on the transaxle (drivers side axle/differential cover plate). Most likely you have lost the amber colored drive gear that the electric stepper motor drives inside the speedo unit. This gear ages and just falls apart -- kind of like old 944 drivers!

Quick fix for alot of VDO gauges is to slap the top fo the dash. My speedo and tach both work fine after the tap. Cost zero.
