does dynamat work?
my 944 seems to be fairly loud going down the road. lots of road noise. engine noise doesnt bother me its the rumble from the noisy tires.
has anyone used dynamat? how noticable is the improvement if any? which parts of the car did you install it in, and how did you do it? is this stuff magic? thanks mike |

Just so you know, it works...
However, I remember reading about somebody analyzing a BMW a while ago... In order to be a sports (sedan) car, yet be comfortable enough to be a daily driver, a car comes to a lot of compromises. A little too much dampenning on the shocks, a little too soft a feel through the steering wheel, (and now the punchline) a little too much insulation in the fenderwells, and the spirit is gone. BMW knows how to make sports sedans, cause they don't tune their cars down where it counts to the real enthusiast. Notice the statements aren't in "-", that's because this isn't a direct quote. Anyway, you see my parents honda accord will out handle, out accelerate, out brake (big time too)a new generation BMW 325, but it isn't as much of a sports car... And I think too much insulation is a part of it (the idea is being able to HEAR what the tires are doing, before it's too violent). However: When I put bigger tires on the accord, the wind noise increased BIG TIME. The car's 3x noisier in the rain. The 944 did NOT suffer from this, and it's been through so many different sizes... Interesting. ------------------ It's all the driver... |

I put a ton of Dynamat in my 914--the firewall behind the seats, under the seats, under the rear deck lid, etc. A little goes a long way. It really worked great and quieted down a loud air cooled w/ big webers.
I have been thinking of replacing the under hood on the 931, but I'm worried about keeping too much heat in and I want all the heat out if possible! Nick |
