Help With Lights
BIG problem. Early 85 944, I have no parking lights, license plate light, dash lights, or fog lights. Well OK, I've got 'em, but they don't work. Head lights are fine, high and low beam, but they don't retract. Every other electrical component works. After it happened, I changed the ignition switch, and the headlight switch, to no avail. I put a temporary jumper between fuses 11&13 to test the circuit to the lights themselves, everything works just the way it's supposed to, except the head lights won't retract. I know the head lights not retracting is probably the relay on the motor itself. I looked at the schematic, and didn't see a relay that controls the parking light circuit, so it's not that. Could the schematic be wrong? Is there a fusible link in the wire feeding power to the head light switch, then to the parking light circuit that the diagram doesn't show? I have no power at the fuses on the parking light circuit, Where does it pick up the power from the battery? The schematic I have is a flow chart, and it shows a wire from the battery to the switch, I've checked for continuity from all three wires at the battery to the head light switch, and get nothing. Any ideas?!?!?

I have these exact same symptoms in my '80 924. Does anyone have any idea what the cause could be?

The schematics that are posted on Pelicans Tech pages for the 944 are for the early pre 85.5 cars. Use them.
The running and headlight circuits are rather straight forward. There have been problems with the grounds on the front chassis behind each of the head lights. You need to check and clean them. Head lights not retracting can be the relay at the motor as well as a bad ground or even a broken wire between the fuse block and the motor. The early fuse block is notorious for having contact problems.

For future reference, it seems like all it was was a loose connector or two on the back of the fuse/relay panel. All is well again. We'll see if it lasts.
