				WTB clean factory 944 key

I'm looking for a clean, factory original 944 compatible cut key at a reasonable price... ie less than $25 and a key that is not worn much if at all. This is for my 1986 951 restoration. Hopefully this is the right place to post this request. If not, mods please move.

All of the cheap $10-15 "aftermarket" locks such as those sold by popular vendors are not the same keyway as factory locks so those are out of the question. My 944 only has one key which is cut off-center and is at least a 2nd or 3rd gen copy. Because of this it sort of works in some locks but only in one direction and other locks require a lot of trial and error to get it to work. I don't really want to pay the $100+ for a single factory lock with key to rekey my car to and my local dealer wants $189+tax for a VIN cut key. I went to a couple local locksmith to look at the cylinders but they said they may not be worn the same due to the poorly cut key i have and would be a huge waste of $$$ to cut a key to the cylinder. There are no numbers on the factory wafers to try to use for cutting a key to. Hopefully someone has a key to help. Cheers GM I believe I have all of the wafers I need to rekey my car to any key and if it works I will share more details, I just need a clean factory key to rekey my car to. Thanks! ~GM

New Huf blanks are available, you could see if https://www.keys4classics.com/ can help you out. I think they usually look at a photo of your key and determine the key code from that, then cut the blank to code. They have new Huf blanks, lighted key heads, etc.

Great success for all 944 owners tonight. I just confirmed I found a cheap source for a pinning kit that work with our cars!

I was able to pick up this kit with 50 of each of the four wafer sizes and extra springs for about $12. I've seen many people asking for this over the years and majority of the responses saying just get used locks from a breaker. Problem I have with that is you never know the condition of the wafers nor do you know if you will get enough of the ones you need. Also, I imagine it would cost more than $12 but never looked into that. My neighbor has an original locking gas cap but no key for it so he let me test on it. Using this kit I found, I successfully rekeyed it to his key. I was also able to decode what key it was originally keyed to and what the code is for his key. If I can find a locksmith with an HPC 1200 or similar and willing to cut a key to code for cheap, I may try this to replace my key and just replace the worn wafers in my locks.
