CD player problems

Alright guys here is my problem. My Blaupunkt Alaska will no longer play cds. I was listening to one in the car this morning and I ejected it to change cds. I put another CD in and it wouldnt play it. So I tried another one and same thing happened. So I put the original cd back in (that was playing 30 seconds prior to putting it back in) and it won't play either. I get the message "CD error" and it ejects it back out. The radio does still work though. Any ideas what might be wrong with the damn thing? Thanks,
-Tim

Thanks for the advice Shaun. There weren't 2 cds in there. Is it possible that it is just dirty and I should get one of those cleaning discs? I have no intention of opening up the unit it self because I know I will screw something up, that always happens without fail.

Do you have a small hole in the back or front for a reset button? It will do on hard boot on your unit. Some units today have a small hole to reset default parameters,,just a thought.

Even if you dont have a reset button you could unplug the battery to acheive the same result. I'd try a cd lense cleaner first. then the battery. if that doesnt work your unit is busted.

Unfortunately, your CD player is probably toasted. The laser lens is probably out of alignment, and while it is repairable, it's often cost-prohibitive. If you're out of warrantly, you might be out of luck. Incidently, I've got the Alaska's sister unit, Nevada, and it's been golden in the 2+ years I've had it so far.

A friend of mine has gone through two new CD players in his Neon in similar fashion, but what's funniest was the look on the repairman's face. He asked, "Is there any chance that some dog hair could have gotten in the unit?"

My friend answered, "Any chance? It's a virtual certainty!" Life with a husky...

In the alpine in my mustang its like the metal dealies that load the CD (internals) got somewhat bent after all the use its gotten so somtimes i force the CD in and it will take it after a few tries and work for awhile... appearently it takes it 3/4 of the way in and then it gets the lip of the CD stuck on the plastic face thingy so if I push it in with my key or something it will work.. if i dont it makes a grinding noise then spits it back out.... so yeah... I dunno if that will help you.. But thats what i do.. and when it loads it works like a charm... Good luck

Well the problem isnt that it doesn't accept the cds or that they won't go in. The problem is that they just won't read properly. I am gonna borrow a friends CD lense cleaner kit and see what it does. If nothing then I am stuck with a just a radio for a while.

My sunroof was cracked open the other day when it rained pretty hard so thats prolly it. Although it didn't look like it had hit it, that's prolly it. Thank god cause I wasn't gonna buy another one for a while. I want a Blau Munchen though.

It was most likely moisture. My home sterio system had the same problem with the cd player and the manufacturer said that it was probably moisture and to unplug it and let it sit. I did just that and it solved the problem.

I wanna nice clarion...I had one before and i loved it...... this alpine is funny though.. its like from 95 or 96 and it sounds GREAT and has 4 preamp outputs so i am happy with it for now... and the EQ is on the low volume side of the circuit.... unlike those porsche ones where its on the speaker level side..... as a matter a fact why dont we see what kind of audio components that we all have in our cars... is it stock - aftermarket? anyone try to fit a 6x9 in the door? size subs etc....

Cool

Hi Rollins..
I just had the exact same thing happen to me with my CD player..didnt work then started to work again. Just so happaened that the laser was failing. I was so happy that I went out and bought a new Alpine deck and changer..
