Driver side vent not working fix?
I have a 1984 944 square dash and I have this issue where the driver side vent isn’t releasing the cold air anymore or any air in general. The flap itself little knob on the vent isn’t letting it fully open anymore .
Does anyone know how to fix it? Even if I hold it open, it doesn’t blow air as hard as it did before |

im less familiar wiht porsche and you need specifics but in my older volvos they used vacuum which =can be switched to control rubber diaphrams, My 944 is older but I believe there is a heater control that has some vaccum lines, if a line comes off you may loose vacuum. You could likely activat them to test with a vacuum device used to bleed brakes or somethign similar. a small syringe might do. volvos also have a vaccum storage tank , if storing vacuum in a tank makes sense, in my 740 its in a weird place, inside the front bumper.. and in that car it has a slider thign to control heat, In volvo 240's they had pushbuttons which turn on or off vacuum ot control flaps. therse are similar to electrical pushbutton switches but nothign electrical they instead divert vacuum to various actuators that in turn move the air flow flaps.
maybe others know if there is a vacuum storage tank in a 944 of this vintage? the vacuum of course originated from the manifold, possibly a leak could affect idle as well? Ive never seen one of the rubber diaphrams fail in any Volvo usually if its an issue, its a hose I knocked off somehow. a friend bought a dodge charger, American huh? well it has a bunch of these super cheap lttle plastic motors with gearboxes and the tiny plastic gears degrade, and it doesnt; take long for them to turn to brittle rubbish. He was quoted several hundred to change the crappy made in china parts. Fisher proice makes better quality parts. They commonly click why? because the silly little plastic gears degrade , then loose their gear teeth. the vacuum operated control system was pretty dependable but maybe it could leak in near the dashboard controls. maybe its possible to "smoke test it" How about inject smoke at some rather low pressure, rather than vacuum and see if it comes out somewhere? I'd suggest opreate the controls and listen you might hear vacuum leaking. possibly there is a problem with the control , the slider thing, you might check in around there and see if you hear vacuum leaking it might control a few lines from that point to rubber actuators in the air ducts etc. you might possibly be able to pul vacuum lines off with the blower turned on and then just use a little syringe, ( no needle) they are cheap.. I like these syringes for things like extracting brake fluid, I got the largest size needle ( 1mm) for injecting glue under veneer and things, I find them handy. I needed to buy a box of 1000 needles they were not epensive, nor were the syringes. I felt funny buying them but no one cared. the rubber in them may rot but Ill iuse them in place of an oilcan sometimes. you can also shoot grease under rubber covers, balljoints etc. what works great for that is a needle used to fill a soccer ball . those will often fit the same thread used on greaseguns anyway if you use a syringe, just poke it inside a hose, pull back on it, no needle, that should make enough vacuum to move it or sense if it has a leak. the smaller the syringe the greater the vacuum you can pull because the ID or surface area is smaller. if you were recently reaching up in around the dash, possibly you pulled one off inadvertently. I just bought a cheapo vacuum bleeder for brakes, it should work for that too, for specifics on your controls , others can answer better. im thiking the problem may not be the flapper on the dash that redirects air but instead the flapper in the air duct that is not moving properly, it maybe quite buried in the dash. therefore supplying less "wind" before trearing into a dash looking check for leaks, maybe a hose came off or split. I tried connecting small syringes to a can of canned air,( dust off) I found I could shoot the little plastic thing pretty far,, and had fun doing a little target practice.. no not with the needle ;-) the handle end comes out first and they make a pop when they shoot out.. you can try that if you get bored.. lol..
