This will be my first attempt in pulling an engine. I have a cherry picker (engine hoist) and 4 jack stands that go 10-16".

The basic idea I'm gathering is put the car up on four jack stands, unhook everything you need to. Then hook up the cherry picker. Then remove the jack stands one by one or crank the cherry picker up if it hoist it high enough.

Is that the basic process?

The thing I don't get it is if you do it from the bottom what in the heck do you use to get it 24" high and also I'm thinking 24" still isn't enough because you have to have a jack under the engine to lower it and with the height of the engine it SEEMS at least 24" although I have no idea.

I've done a few searches and printed out all the tips, but I certainly love to hear some more comments on my questions. Thank you.

I'll be pulling a 924S engine out and dropping a 944 engine back in, never pulled an engine off anything other than a motorcycle or kart in my life. Looking forward to the learning .experience

Does anyone have a check lists that they composed when removing and engine and putting it back in?

Don't bend the reference sensors.

Honestly I prefer to pull the engines from the top. Having the car four feet in the air on blocks just scares the piss out of me.

Now if you have a "real" garage with a hoist...

When you pull the engine from the top is it necessary to remove the radiator?
