Knock Sensor 2 CEL
I've got a persistent CEL code 32 (knock sensor 2). I've replaced the sensor twice. It will go off intermittently on its own sometimes and then come back.
If I clear the codes with the pedal before starting I can drive as long as I want without the CEL returning, so I dont think its actually knocking. Once I turn the car off and start it again, the CEL returns imediatly upon starting. Is there A way to bypass the knock sensor? I assume that if I just unplug it it will still throw a code and retard the timing. Is holding the pedal down prior to starting to clear the codes not completely clearing it. As in the code it still stored, but not active? The car runs and drive perfectly, when the code is present its quite obvious that the timing is retarded, but otherwise drives just fine. Edit: I forgot to include that it is a 95, 968. Last edited by Cajames; 10-16-2025 at 08:05 PM.. |

It's probably the wiring or connector. I'm not sure how the test works, the ECU might look for a baseline signal (engine noise) and if it does not see enough of a signal it throws the code.
You could try ohming out both sensors from the ECU harness. Or even hooking them to an audio amplifier and tapping on the engine.
