Unhappy What else...car won't start

I have read the majority of posts concerning the shut down or no-start problems alot of us have. After alot of trouble shooting and part replacement and no joy, I asked the previous owner (my Mom) if she had any problems with the car and she said that they did and when it wouldn't start her husband would wack the floor board above the DME and it would start. Well I tried this scientific method, and using my calibrated rubber mallott, I tapped the board above the DME and it started. My question is, what inside sounds like it needs to be replaced?

Probably a dry joint or loose wiring in the DME or the DME connection to the car wiring loom need cleaning, securing. Only cure is to remove DME open it up and inspect and fix problem.

Sometimes, when life's problems require a screwdriver, a hammer works just fine.

I would check to see if the area under your battery is rusted. If water leaks in it drips on the DME box. The cheap fix is to epoxy the bottom.

If I were you I'd remove the box and get some electrical contact cleaner and spray it on the plug in parts - both males and females.

Disconnect the battery before working on the box.

Disconnect the battery, reseat the DME plug into the connector a few times. sometimes oxidation on the contacts can also cause an intermittent-

Or..

Pull the dme and inspect the solder joints. A cold solder jont can and will be an intermittent. Identifying the exact connection to an untrained eye can be frustration. Easy enough to resolder ALL the contacts- should take a moderately experienced solder monkey about 1-2 hours to resolder the 300+ solder joints on both boards..
