Post tranny swapping - auto to manual

Has anyone ever done this? I know of a 944 for sale with a burnt auto. I have a complete extra manual setup that I could use for this, provided it's as straight forward as I'd imagine it to be. I guess my main concern would be the pedal and linkage setup.

Any suggestions etc.?

Thanks, Dean

Automatic is 1986, manual to use is from a 1985.5 (both 944's). Thanks, Dean

still researching this, it should be possible, but i want to check on if you will need advanced fabrication to get it working right.

Hi Dean well are you in for a big job or what I cant tell you if every thing will work but i know that you will have to replace the auto drive plate from the engine this might include also replacing the flywheel and I am not shure if the manual and auto bell housings are the same also the brake resivoir might need to be changed for the feed to the clutch mater cyl, and cluch master cylinder and slave dont forget about putting in a whole new pedal assmbly this might require dashboard removal also the shifter bar linkage will have to be installed this might require removing the engine or dropping the torsion bar assmbly to install this shift rod,(as far as the shift rod goes it might be able to be worked around the side of the drive tube) all in all a pretty big job in addition to the parts for the clutch new disc, p plate ,tob, pilot bearing, and re adjusting the engine sensors to mate up with the new flywheel if it is needed......Hummmm lets see what else I think the drive tubes are the same (the tube that carries the drivshaft), Oh how about the shifter console this is different and replace the rear main seal on the engine I am not shure if the starers are different either and one other thing the trans mounts might be different you know not to jack the car up from under the trans this will damage the trans mount........sounds like a long weekend to do this swap let me know how it goes.....good luck Stan

Thanks, Dean
